IMEI registration for mobile phones rules from today
From today, people who enter the country with a cell phone purchased abroad, shall register the IMEI code (identification possessed by each cellphone) in the operator of their choice.
The registration deadline is 60 days after entering the country with the device. The operator Movistar informed that today they will begin the registration process.
The information collected will be shared with the Superintendency of Telecommunications (Supertel), entity that will confirm the activation of the equipment in the networks arranged to mobile operators, said the operator.
The user may perform the procedure personally in the service centers of Movistar nationwide. Meanwhile, Claro said they will be ready in the coming weeks, while the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT) gave not information.
The Supertel reported that the phones that enter by land borders may not be registered, and therefore they will not work in Ecuador.
