The Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (Arcotel) announced that the process of negotiating the renewal of the concession contracts for the provision of the Advanced Mobile Service (SMA) of the International Long Distance Telephone Service began on August 25. , with the operators Otecel SA (Movistar) and Conecel SA (Claro).

For this, the executive director of Arcotel, Andrés Rodrigo Jácome Cobo, signed two resolutions: 2021-976 and 2021-979 on the subject. According to Arcotel, this process is carried out within the established schedule, within the framework of the contractual stipulations. In this phase, the new terms and conditions of the rights of concession and use of frequencies, technical, legal and economic conditions that these operators must comply with as of 2023 will be established, once the current contracts end. Thus the process will last two years.

The negotiation process between Arcotel and the operators will be accompanied by national and international observers who will guarantee its transparency.

Arcotel said that under the transparency guidelines of the Government of the Meeting, the negotiation of the concession contracts will attract new investments for the State, generate direct and indirect employment in compliance with the goals set. It will also provide direct benefits to the citizen by expanding coverage, connectivity, innovation and technological development ; as well as there will be quality indices for the services provided in the country.
