Investigation of journalist’s murder Fausto Valdiviezo is without clues
The authorities began investigations into the murder of journalist of Guayaquil Fausto Valdiviezo, who was gunned down by unknown assailants on Thursday night after leaving his mother’s house in La Atarazana citadel, north of the city.
The Ministry of Interior reported that 100 police investigators work to find those responsible for the attack that claimed the life of Valdiviezo. They meetings were held in Quito and Guayaquil, including police and officials, to collect the assumptions of the criminal offense, meanwhile, relatives and friends of the journalist were not aware any possible motives, but reiterated that someone tried to assassinate Valdiviezo in a typical day prior to leaving his home but the journalist did not report the incident.
Yesterday morning those closest to him were visited by two officers of the Judicial Police (PJ) who went to the house of the family of Valdiviezo, in Villa Club, asking details for the investigation of the first attack. While on his Twitter account, @MashiRafael, the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa wrote: “Dismayed by Fausto Valdiviezo murder. A solidary hug to his family with the commitment that crime will not go unpunished.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Guayaquil Viviana Bonilla, said through her account, @viviana_bonilla, published: “Our condolences go to the family of #FaustoValdivieso we will not let this crime go unpunished. Police began investigations.” In a similar manner, the defense minister, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, presented her condolences to the family of the journalist and said the police are “exhausting efforts to get justice.”
For his part, the coordinator of the unit flagrancy, William Aguilar, said the investigation had begun. One of the first steps was to investigate the house of the journalist, in Los Samanes.
The authorities have requested cooperation from family and friends and have reiterated that as soon as possible they will inform of the course of investigations.
Meanwhile, the family of the late journalist attended the funeral yesterday afternoon, amid the general consternation of family, friends, colleagues and even citizen journalists who met him through the television career of the presenter and reporter.
