Judge ordered house arrest of former Comptroller General Carlos Pólit

The criminal judge of the National Court of Justice (CNJ) Luis Enríquez ordered the preliminary inquiry for 90 days and ordered the house arrest against of former Comptroller General Carlos Polit for the alleged crime of concussion. According to Article 281 of the Integral Criminal Organic Code (COIP), the crime above mentioned is punishable by a prison sentence of three to five years.
Also, the judge ordered the prohibition of assets disposal and the blocking of Polit´s bank accounts, who currently remains in Miami, United States.
The decision was adopted at the request of Attorney General Carlos Baca Mancheno, in the arraignment hearing held yesterday at the CNJ, where he detailed the elements and results of the investigation.
Baca explained that according to the investigations, there is evidence of the crime, particularly the audio of the conversation between Polit and José Conceiçao dos Santos Filho, a former executive of Odebrecht in Ecuador.
According to Baca, the former official benefited from $ 10.1 million in cash and national and international transfers. Transactions were made through the Cosini and Plastiquim companies for $ 1,700,000. He also referred to the Odebrecht disallowances for $ 70 million and his fading with $ 6 million. (I)
