Lenin Moreno meets in Guayaquil with Mayor Nebot
Posted On 20 Jun 2017
Ecuadornews:
An expected meeting. The president today receives the mayor of Guayaquil Jaime Nebot in what will be the first meeting marked by a conflictive relationship between that city hall and the previous government. With this gesture, Lenin Moreno continues to accentuate the differences between his administration and that of his predecessor Rafael Correa.
The Municipality – Government relationship was conflictive during the past decade. Criticisms of the government to the municipal administration model always had a response in the same way and tone to the presidential decisions, mainly, to the governmental economic policies.
Nebot and Correa rarely appeared together at a public event. The first time was in 2007. It took eight years for them to shake hands again at an event in Guayaquil on the eve of the celebration of the independence of the city.
The Moreno – Nebot meeting is not surprising. Both, apart from their ideological differences, have acknowledged a friendship.
The meeting will begin at 16:30 in the Zonal Government of Guayaquil, on the second day of President Moreno’s first official visit to the city after his inauguration. (I)
