Luis Almagro received political opponents of Ecuador in Washington
Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro met Thursday afternoon with nine Ecuadorean opposition politicians -representatives of the National Agreement for Transparent Elections- who requested the intervention of the international organization in the 2017 elections.
The representatives of 14 political parties urged the OAS to “recommend the CNE (National Electoral Council) to implement the scrutiny and publication of results system applied by the OAS, due to the obvious problems that have existed in recent elections.”
In addition, the order included the request for the OAS to run surveillance audits, tests and controls; to the eight processes of the Ecuadorean electoral administration. And that the CNE complies with the Constitution and the Code of Democracy, “because unconstitutional actions by the electoral body and antecedents that do not guarantee a transparent electoral process in 2017 currently exist.”
