He had confirmed his presence but never arrived. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was the great absentee in the presidential inauguration of Lenin Moreno. He was the most awaited guest by pro-government and opposition members.
“Let us maintain a humanist model and continue to build paths of peace for a free and sovereign Latin America,” Maduro wrote on his Facebook account from the distance.
He did not arrive, but there were protests. Dozens of Venezuelans living in Quito concentrated on the northern entrance of the Legislature to protest against the regime of President Nicolas Maduro.
Venezuela is going through a serious political crisis that has left about 60 dead in the last months. The opposition seeks the overthrow of the president.
