The Environment Ministry has coordinated with the Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police to find those responsible for the death of the condor ‘Felipe’, this Saturday, April 12 on the moors near the lagoon of Salayambo, province of Napo.
‘Felipe’ was rescued on June 25, 2013, by the Ministry of the Environment of the Ecuador (MAE) and the National Working Group of the Andean Condor(GNTCA), in coordination with the community of Campo Alegre.
After being released, the animal was monitored with a satellite Tracker and ID wing bands; allowing its location, the monitoring of its flight paths and its places of rest. Thanks to this tool, the exact point where it lay dead could be located.
After this unfortunate discovery, the dead animal was moved to the Veterinarian Hospital of the San Francisco University of Quito, where a necropsy was performed, which showed the presence of ammunition of calibre that caused its death.
