Martin Baron of The Washington Post supports Ecuadorian media
The influential American newspaper editor, Martin Baron, spoke yesterday about the situation of Ecuadorian media during a talk in Bogota, organized by the private Universidad del Rosario and Publicaciones Semana.
Baron spoke that “In Ecuador there is a threat to the freedom of press.” Baron said, with 290 participants, “I always worry about the lack of press freedom in any country.”
He added that “for years, Mr. Correa has become known for prosecutions against journalists from their own country and their attempts to destroy the OAS Special Rapporteur for Freedom of the press“.
Given these statements, Correa responded sharply saying “the face slap of the century The Washington Post ‘accused’ Ecuador being of double standard. The nerve! Do you realize the power of the press…?” said Correa through his Twitter account.
