Mayor Nebot will propose the Charity Board to eliminate concert tax
Posted On 20 Mar 2014
Mayor Jaime Nebot, yesterday morning, ratified an intention that was published in July of the last year: to ask the Charity Board of Guayaquil (JBG) to stop charging the tax to public entertainment, in exchange that the Municipality delivers the value of that tribute.
To do so, in the coming days, the Mayor will call a meeting with the directors of the charity institution to address the issue. It will be through an agreement that pays around $400,000 to JBG, which receives about the 10% of the ticket office of foreign artists shows.
According to the figures, all artistic promoter who wanted to organize a show in Guayaquil had to pay approximately a 38% of the total ticket office in taxes. That figure included the 10% of the box office to the Municipality, another 10% to the JBG, an 8% to the Ecuadorian Authors and Songwriters Society (Sayce) for music copyright , and a 10% to the Actor Association of Guayas.
A reform to article 544 of the organic Code of Administrative Divisions (Cootad), which took effect last January 21, eliminated the payment of municipal tribute at national level. The new decrease, which is in the hands of the JBG, would give a new opportunity for the city to be spectator of the great concerts.
