MIPRO revises coexistence of safeguards and agreements
Posted On 19 May 2015
The Ministry industries and Productivity (MIPRO) will conduct a review to tariff safeguards, announced yesterday Eduardo Egas, head of this state portfolio.
Egas said there may be a gradual dismantling process, not abrupt of surcharges, and he also mentioned that this measure is part of a “road map” presented yesterday to representatives of business and industrial associations on the development and design of a new industrial policy in the country.
During the meeting, held in the Guayaquil Convention Center, the minister said that safeguards and import controls are necessary, but must be rational and pledged to revise them. He also disagreed with the application of agreements to reduce entrepreneurs´ imports.
