Monument in Honor of Leon Febres-Cordero is accepted

Late former President Leon Febres-Cordero
The Second Chamber of the Civil and Commercial of the Provincial Court of Guayas lifted the entry ban of the monument in honor of late former president Leon Febres-Cordero, into the country.
The Board reversed the decision of a lower judiciary, which hosted a protective action raised by the collective Diabluma to annul the resolution of the Municipality of Guayaquil, which dictated that Febres-Cordero’s bust was to be installed in the forecourt of the Malecon Simon Bolivar adjacent to El Fortin.
The new order states that the monument “may enter after fulfilling customs formalities and its placement may be made in the area of the Malecon Simon Bolivar plaza that is not within the protected area, following a study that takes into account aesthetic characteristics and size.”
The court ruled also “the eviction of any monument, obelisk or object without a historical, technical and aesthetic report and without consensus and approval of the Institute of Cultural Heritage, that has been placed in a protected area after the protective action presentation, either by the Municipality of Guayaquil or any other entity.” (MZ)
