Moscow subway accident leaves 20 dead and hundreds injured
The Moscow subway suffered the derailment of three carriages that circulated between stations “Povedi Park” and “Slavonic bulvar”, leaving at least 20 people dead and over a hundred injured.
According to Itar-Tass agency, the accident occurred this Tuesday morning, would have been caused by a voltage drop that led the convoy into wrong signals, which reacted with an unexpected braking.
Another version, according to the Interfax agency, refers to a mechanical failure in the setting of the wheels to the train body.
Some of the passengers were able to exit the train derailed on their own, but the doors of one of the carriages were locked and were opened by the emergency services after an hour from the fault; at 8:39 pm Moscow time (4:30 GMT).
Oleg Salagai, Health Ministry spokesman said that 161 people were injured, of which 129 were admitted to a hospital. Forty-two are in serious conditions.
