The trial hearing on the lawsuit that Odebrecht raised against Petroecuador will be reinstated by January 31 at 10:30, according to the legal defense of the Brazilian construction company.

This diligence was suspended at 7:00 p.m. yesterday after being installed at 9:00 a.m. in room 201 of the Guayas Provincial Court of Justice. It was chaired by judges Luis Romero, Carlos Jaramillo Montesinos and Xavier Sandoval.

In one of the recesses, Marco Prado , procurator of Petroecuador, said that Odebrecht founded the non-cancellation of worksheets.
“We have defended ourselves with the economic and legal technical argument regarding the issue,” he said.

This case arises after Odebrecht’s claim to Petroecuador for $ 174.7 million as compensation for declaring the unilateral termination of the contract for the construction of the Pascuales-Cuenca pipeline.

It was in 2013 when the work was awarded to the Brazilian construction company for $ 369.9 million.

Parado said that the $ 174.7 million in compensation is argued for different items, including interest and unpaid returns.

José Gibrán , legal representative of Odebrecht in Ecuador, mentioned that the lawsuit “is discussing the legality or illegality of actions Petroecuador took for the contract when he decided to terminate it unilaterally.”

“The practice of the test could take us one, two or three days. There are 78 tests that we have to support. Hopefully it can be concluded in one, two or three days, but no more than that, ”he said.

Until yesterday afternoon, 24 of the 78 tests presented by Odebrecht were supported.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister José Agusto Briones said that the national interest will be defended. “We are technically quantifying the damages and we will proceed. We appeal to justice for a social conscience, the damage is evident, there are foundations that are in the air (…) it cannot be these gentlemen in a malicious counterclaim want to reverse a situation that is harming Ecuadorians, ”he said .

Finally he mentioned that in the coming days he hopes to have an assessment of the damages.
