Quito is positioned in the international ranking as a destination for congresses
Quito remains one of the leading venues in the region for holding events, conferences and meetings. For the first time since the covid-19 pandemic, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) published the ‘Destination Performance Index’.
This document analyzes criteria for international participation , rotation and timing of events in each city to classify destinations worldwide.
Among the aspects analyzed, ICCA, considered the most important MICE (business) tourism association in the world, examined the meetings held in 2021. It then classified them based on how they were affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
In the 2021 overall ranking, Quito ranks 10th in South America and 13th among cities in Latin America and the Caribbean . In addition, Ecuador ranks 8th in the region.
The Municipality of Quito pointed out that the location of the city in this ranking places it on the radar of hosted buyers, or those responsible for organizing congresses, conventions and incentive trips. They use the ICCA classification as a reference to choose the venue for their activities.
Quito has more than 115 thousand square meters and 73 locations, including heritage spaces , farms in rural areas, contemporary venues, rooms in 5 and 4 star hotels and convention centers; to host all kinds of events.
So far in 2022, 10 international events have been held in Quito and 20 more are confirmed until December of this year. In this way, the Cabildo of Quito pointed out, “the MICE tourism industry and its production chain that includes lodging, food, transportation, logistics, among others” are “invigorated.”
