Radio Disney fined for breaching the national music quota
The penalized Radio Disney for failing to air the 35% quota of national music and shall pay ten basic wages.
The fine is $ 3,660 and the station has three days to pay it, otherwise the file will be transferred to the State Comptroller so that body initiates the coercive process.
According to the Superintendent, on December 8, “El Despertador” (The Clock) radio program broadcast from 6:00 to 8:00, did not air the 35% of this musical content, as required by Section 103 of the Communications Act.
“… Of the 23 songs broadcast during the program, 17 were of foreign origin and only 6 national, implying a 26% of compliance versus a 35%, which is established by the rule,” says the resolution.
The radio station argued that the program “has a special format” in which the audience makes its requests by phone.
Radio stations must broadcast a 50% of musical content; but the norm is applied gradually, so, for now a 35% must be aired.
