Rafael Correa: The country must take vacations from me, and I also have to take vacations from the country
The last Report to the Nation by President Rafael Correa, was marked by an evocation of the earthquake of last April 16 and the justification of the measures taken to address the emergency, and Correa even announced that he will send the inheritance and capital gains bills to the assembly.
Musical performances and videos dedicated to the provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas, the hardest hit by the earthquake, played a leading role in the ceremony. The president regretted the deaths of 673 people during the earthquake, 9 missing, 6,274 injured, 28,775 homeless people and the destruction of 6,998 buildings; and celebrated the rescue of 113 people from the rubble.
The president said that poor constructions contributed to the destruction of the buildings and the death of so many people, and before this he announced he will boost the programmatic axis of the urban revolution in conjunction with decentralized autonomous governments.
The one who insisted this was his last Report to the Nation, gave it before an auditorium full of guests, including former Vice President Lenin Moreno, who was applauded by those present and the militants of the Alianza PAIS (AP) party.
