Remarks of Ecuadorian Migrants
Ecuadorian residents in Spain witnessed the police uprising against President Correa, the Ecuadorian community watched the events without being able to sleep due to the six hour difference. When the army was rescuing Correa it was a new dawn in Madrid.
Flavio Gamboa, a 51 year-old Ecuadorian said that he hasn’t being able to sleep since he was on the phone with his two sons in Ecuador. Watching the television and consulting the internet. During the nightfall and sun rise, many Ecuadorians followed the events by radio or television.
The Ecuadorian community in Spain is one of the largest with over 400.000 legal immigrants.
Many of the Ecuadorians were astonished at the events on Thursday and most of them didn’t sleep at all and were scared since all the saw on the news was violence, they received calls from relatives saying what was going on.
Meanwhile the Rumiñahui association in Spain accused the opposition to try to provoke coup d’etat. Rumiñahui rejects the measures that threatened the democracy of Ecuador by some manipulated policemen.
Most of the immigrants haven’t been very supportive towards Correa’s administration; however they did defended the actions of the government. Gamboa stated that the situation in Ecuador is bad, but this can’t happen again. Correa is the President the people elected.
