Mauricio Rodas, elected Mayor of Quito, was ratified as the Chairman of the movement SUMA, thus it was decided by representatives of this political grouping in Manta, last April 26. The event was held at the Coliseum of the Sports Centre Toali, located in the way to San Manta, in the southwest of the city.
From 15:30 to 18:30, 3 500 people arrived from the 24 provinces of the country, including 19 mayors, three Governors and 76 elected councilors throughout the country, were present at the appointment of SUMA. Guillermo Celi, militant of this political group, raised the motion to ratify Mauricio Rodas as the leader of SUMA, which was supported by all participants.
On his side, Rodas confirmed his trust in Celi and appointed him as the National Spokesman for the movement, lthough he was already fulfilling these activities since last February, after Rodas won elections in Quito. Rodas stressed the role that SUMA has gained since the elections and said that this shows the people’s trust in their politicians. `We have 17 mayors, plus two who bring together our movement, three Governors, 76 Council members and some parochial boards, we are not the revelation, we are a reality´, he said.
In addition, in order to strengthen the political grouping, two instances were created in SUMA: the Political Education and Leadership Institute, and the Model School of Responsible Government. Their mission will be to permanently train the members of the movement and support to develop plans of work of the new chosen sectional authorities.
