Scientists prepared for El Niño and plagues

Cane growers get ready for the effects of the heavy rains. And as a result, they receive visits from scientists and researchers.
Raul Castillo, director of the Research Center of Sugarcane of Ecuador (CINCAE for its Spanish acronym) said that the proliferation of rats is what must be prevented from now. Floods kill the snake that prevents that rodents affect the plantation. The last time the heavy rains fell in the country (1997) “the rats affected a particular Churute crop up to 80%. Therefore, this is the plague that must be prevented right now with force. With traps, cleaning weeds and drainage,” he added.
