SIP Questions Correa’s “Smear Campaign” Against Daily El Universo
Posted On 02 Jun 2011
The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today reacted against the new controversy among the government of President Rafael Correa and Newspaper El Universo.
In a statement posted on its official site, the SIP rejected what they called is “a new wave of insults and critics” against the media and, according to the agency, this is a systematic campaign to discredit the newspaper of Guayaquil.
The new friction began due a publication made in El Telégrafo (now a government media), last May 3, which stated that El Universo would be involved in the construction of the Bus Terminal of Guayaquil, a business that allegedly would have harmed the state.
