Six Assemblymen presented 39 evidence against Espinosa
Ecuadornews:
A document of 48 sheets submitted by six legislators rests in the National Assembly. This is the request for impeachment against the Minister of Foreign Affairs, María Fernanda Espinosa.
The Assemblymen Fernando Flores, Byron Suquilanda and Marcelo Simbaña (CREO); Cristina Reyes and Henry Cucalón (PSC); and René Yandún (BIN) delivered 39 tests grouped into six topics that show, according to the document, the “non-compliance of functions” of the Chancellor.
In the same text they request 14 ex officio proofs: two to the International Relations Commission; ten to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and two to the Presidency of the Republic.
They also asked the Assembly to call Jorge Troya Fuertes, director of the Civil Registry; to the relatives of the El Comercio team, kidnapped and murdered on the northern border; and Santiago Cuesta Caputi, government adviser for the Improvement of Efficiency and State Optimization.
The procedure that was born as an initiative of the CREO movement was supported by 56 firms. Homero Castanier, representative of the CREO caucus, mentioned that the “disrespect for a diplomatic agreement with Honduras” is part of the evidence.
It refers to the agreement to support the candidacy of Mary Elizabeth Flores, Honduran chancellor to the presidency of the UN, where on Tuesday, June 5, the President is chosen. The dignity is disputed between the chancellors of Honduras and Ecuador.
193 States must choose the new leader. But this issue does not affect the decision of the process of impeachment, said Castanier, who also criticized that in times of austerity the country should designate $ 20,000 per month in case Espinosa was chosen as head of the UN.
After President Lenin Moreno assured that the decision to grant Ecuadorian nationality to Julian Assange was from the chancellor, Cristina Reyes said that it becomes one more test against Espinosa. “It shows that she is incapable of directing foreign policy,” she added. (I)
