Spain: King Juan Carlos yields the throne to his son Philip
King Juan Carlos announced his abdication to renew the monarchy and his successor will be his son, Prince Philip, so that he can “open a new era of hope in which the experience gained and the boost of a new generation would be combined.”
The monarch said in a message to the nation that he thought in the relay at his 76th birthdat, last January, and when he “looks back,” he can not “but feeling pride and gratitude” to the Spaniards.
“I keep and I will always keep Spain in the very depths of my heart,” remarked the king in his message to explain his decision to abdicate in favor of his son, aged 46,in a was broadcasting on radio and television to the nation from his office in the Zarzuela Palace.
The Government will held tomorrow, Tuesday, a council of ministers to approve the special Organic Law that, according to the Spanish Constitution, will allow the succession of Prince Philip to the Crown.
