Heavy rains do not stop on the coast, especially in the North, and hundreds of families have been affected by the ravages of winter. This morning there was an avalanche  that buried the members of three families in the area of Tabete, 30 kilometers from the city of Esmeraldas, in the route of Esmeraldas-Quininde-Santo Domingo.

Ernesto Estupinan, Mayor of Esmeraldas, ordered to activate the emergency operations Committee (COE) and visited the area of the tragedy.

The police has been commissioned to bring stretchers and bags to the area of the landslide, while some of the canine unit trained dogs have been taken to try to locate the bodies of the buried people.

The authorities reported that the hill that collapsed is formed by expansive sand, the rain caused the erosion of the soil, and when it is dry there an avalanche is produced.

On the other hand, in the Ricaurte parish, Urdaneta canton (Los Rios), the inhabitants are desperate because the hospital it has been closed since last Saturday,  when it was flooded by the overflowing of the Catarama River.

In Vinces, the River of the same name, overflowed after the break of the  containment wall in Las Pampas, because of this, more than 500 families were affected, as 800 hectares of rice and other 125 HA of cocoa, bananas and corn. The floodwaters of the river also affected large agricultural areas at the cantonal head of  Salitre.

In Guayaquil and other cities of the coast, in the past three days,  the average temperature of 32 degrees Celsius decreased to 22 and according to meteorological authorities is the announcement of the change of season, although they warned that rains would be present until the second week of May.
