Surgeons grown artificial nose in the forehead of a patient
Posted On 26 Sep 2013
A team of surgeons in China implanted an artificial nose on a patient’s forehead, who is about to lose the original respiratory organ.
Currently, Xiaolian’s nose is infected and deformed because he did not receive proper care after a car accident in August 2012. The cartilage has eroded so that the surgeons were unable to recover it.
The new nose was grown by placing a tissue expander of the skin on the forehead and then implanted cartilage taken from the ribs, which was cut in the shape of a nose.
Doctors say that once the nose is in good shape it will be quickly transplanted into the patient.
