UN abandons Syria
This Friday the Syrian government increased its attacks against rebel bastions in Aleppo and other parts of Syria, fierce fights where reported in Damascus. These actions occurred a day after the UN called time on its observer mission.
Last Thursday the UN announced his decision to retreat and rethink a different approach to solve the Syrian crisis. The UN puts the toll at around 17,000 victims. However last Thursday 24 people were killed in Aleppo and 180 more died across the country.
Meanwhile Russia called a meeting in New York on Friday of UN ambassadors from the so-called Geneva action group on Syria, but it was not clear if the Western governments would attend. (AV)
