The 4G network arrived but 85% of users remain in 2G
The network’s fourth generation (4G), also known as LTE, is working in Quito and Guayaquil, since last December. The National Council of Telecommunications (Conatel) approved on 18 October of 2013 the new frequency allocation.
Last December, the National Corporation for telecommunications (CNT) launched the network service. Therefore they said yesterday that the service is available to the users through the ‘ my Wi-Fi’ device, which is a kind of mobile device with technology 4 G, which acts as a provider of mobile Internet. Through this the user can access the technology, with values ranging from $ 29, according to the CNT.
Users experience high speed in the sending and receiving of data. For example to get a picture, with the network 4G takes 1.5 seconds; to download a movie the period is reduced to 17 minutes; listening to music transmission is immediate, it reaches a second, in contrast with other networks, the lapse of time is 10 times greater.
Models that allow this technology are: iPhone 4S, Samsung S3, and brands developing similar devices and tablets, latest models of BlackBerry, Huawei and Lenovo. Operators Claro and Movistar have requested permission to install their networks.
However, while the technology has evolved and has reached the fourth generation, users in the country are still in the 2G network. According to the Supertel, of the 15.5 million lines that were counted in the country until last November, 85.8% belongs to this technology, which concentrates the voice and text messaging.
