The aspirations of Ecuador within the OPEC are not met
One of the main objectives for which Ecuador returned to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has not been met in the last juncture of low crude prices.
In October 2007, when the country returned to the organization after 15 years of absence, its main aim was to benefit from foreign trade policies for crude oil the group could take in negative economic shocks to achieve fair prices.
While in 2009, the OPEC reached a decision to cut production to recover prices, in the last year and a half the barrel drop has weighed more in the decision of strong producers like Saudi Arabia and the group has remained passive with respect to a possible cut in supply.
