The assemblymen open their bank accounts
Ecuadornews:
Among the cases reported, a consultant 1 who earned $ 2,850, only received from his boss an amount of $ 1,533 due to the discounts that were made.
Yesterday, Fabricio Villamar, of CREO, managed to approve his resolution to audit colleagues and find out if there are illegal charges to their advisers and assistants. “It is a shameful but necessary process to purge the Assembly and guarantee to the Ecuadorians that only the legislators remain who do not have a blemish,” he warned.
Villamar received 10 testimonies from the victims during the last two weeks: chats, emails, videos and voice recordings. He summarized those cases: he counted that an advisor 1 earned $ 2,850, but with his boss’s discounts he received $ 1,533. Or how an advisor was forced to pay 3% of her salary and to finance the events of her parliamentarian.
The legislator also reported that he will give each of the public institutions the indications that reached his office about these undue charges in the Assembly and in other public institutions. In recent days he reported that irregularities also existed in the Ecuadorian Vocational Training Service (Secap), after which the Ministry of Labor accepted the resignation of the executive director Mateo Coronel.
This Journal counted 32 cases in the current period and 8 in the previous one. Of the first, 15 are re-elected assembly members, that is, they were also in the past. While 17 parliamentarians have only one year.
What are the political parties are they from? Of Alianza PAIS, Citizen Revolution, independent, CREO, Social Christian-Wood Party of Guerrero, SUMA and National Integration Block. In this group there are national, provincial legislators and those from the outer constituencies: Manabí, Santa Elena, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Pichincha, Esmeraldas, El Oro, Sucumbíos, Morona Santiago, Tungurahua, Pichincha.
María Mercedes Cuesta, from Fuerza Ecuador, expressed her concern about the collection of “tithes”. “My practice is of service in this Assembly, not of serving in this position.” For other parliamentarians, self-purification is not enough.
Fernando Burbano, independent, explained that reforms to the Organic Law of the Legislative Function are required; a new functional structure; create a monitoring unit for the law; and have an Assembly totally open to citizens. (I)
