The banana ranking changes in the country

Dole is still in first place as the largest exporter company, ten out of a hundred bananas that leave the country belong to this brand.

The second place is for Favorita Fruit Company (Banana King of the Pacific), which last year increased its sales by more than 2 million boxed, according to data from the Association of Banana Exporters (AEBE).

Truisfruit, the company of businessman Alvaro Noboa, went down to the 3rd place, since its exports fell by 1.6 million compared to 2014. In part, the drop occcurred because this fruit is not produced anymore in La Clementina hacienda. After a dispute with the Internal Revenue service, Noboa´s hacienda was seized and taken over by his workers. Its fall comes from 2013, when the company exported 20 million boxes. Since that year (compared to 2015) sales fell by 23%.

Sabrostar Fuit replaces Asoagribal in the fifth place, climbing four positions among the main banana exporting companies.

Another company that did not do well last year was Brundicorpi (Chiquita), whose exports fell from 7.3 to 5.8 million boxes sold from one period to other. While Banacali entered the top 10.
