The City Council requests the Government to authorize the dredging
“Legal means” to concession the dredging the access canal (entirely) to the ports of Guayaquil from the sea buoy to buoy 90, 9.60 meters offshore, is in the hands of the Ministry of Transportation.
The 10th of this month, Mayor Jaime Nebot sent a letter with two objectives: one, to show his agreement with the construction of the Posorja Deepwater Port; the other, the concession of the total dredging of the route, which is vital for the competitiveness of foreign trade in the country.
And he emphasizes that this will not cost a single penny to the government, since the shipping companies will be the ones that pay this, with the consequent benefit for the sector: to bring more cargo per freight.
Daily Expreso port executives speak on the subject and the main idea is that a prestigious company is in charge of the dredging and its maintenance and the charge of a “toll” for the service.
