Pacari has 35 varieties of chocolates. Products with mortino, verbena, lemon verbena, passion fruit, salt, roasted chocolate, cassava, cherry, fig, roses, peppers, among others. That mixture allowed the company to sell more than two million bars in 40 countries during 2015. This year the goal is to reach three million bars. Of those, 80% will be exported.

The good example of Pacari was replicated in other companies. Toni, for example, is preparing a new product line called “Flavors of Ecuador”: two naranjilla and mango yogurts, two typical Ecuadorian fruits.

According to the Ecuadorian company, which has 72% of the local market, a study was made to discover the preferences of consumers. Most respondents said they are looking for a traditional taste.

Enrique Ycaza, executive of the OLÉ company, believes that the customer looks for “Ecuadorian flavors and additionally real.” For this, he told this newspaper, “Our key lies in the use of natural ingredients. If our salsa says it has passion fruit, it is because it is really prepared with fresh fruit.”
