The parties turn to the National Electoral Council members

Posted On 31 Aug 2018

Ecuadornews:

An opportunity they do not want to miss. 94% of the national political organizations that participated in the legislative and presidential elections of 2017 fight to have a representative in the final National Electoral Council

In the list of applicants are some people who have held positions both for the former Supreme Electoral Tribunal and for the current National Electoral Council. Some are not necessarily militants of the parties and movements.

“CREO did not look for people who follow orders. We are looking for honest, experienced and experienced people in the field. That guarantees us the right that we all have to our will be respected the day we go to the polls, “said the director of this movement, César Monge, after registering Enrique Pita and Monica Montesdeoca.

With the mandate for the designation of National Electoral Council directors, issued earlier this month, the Council of Transitional Citizen Participation again opened the possibility that parties and movements may form part of the electoral body.

Since 2011 there have been public competitions of opposition and merits in which the political stores did not participate, although the accusation of the transitory Council is that the National Electoral Council was in the hands of a single movement: Alianza Pais

Andrés León, who presented himself as an aspirant for SUMA, said it was an incoherence that the parties were not allowed to participate in the formation of the electoral body. “Nowhere in the world can you eliminate the political part of a political body, it does not make sense,” he said.

Also, professional associations, social organizations and universities and polytechnic schools presented candidates, among which are some who were officials in recent years as Diego Tello, who until recently was coordinator of electoral processes of the National Electoral Council ceased.

Until Tuesday, a technical commission will check that the applicants meet the requirements. This will issue a report to the full Council of Participation that will choose 14 applicants who will go to the stage of citizen challenge.
