The signature dispute to run for 2017 elections
17 political organizations are facing the dispute over the signatures for their recognition before the National Electoral Council. At least 175,132 signatures must be submitted, ie the equivalent to 1.5% of the electoral register of the last election of the jurisdiction.
Besides collecting the necessary signatures, they must collect an additional double or triple of the minimum to ensure validation. A universe of groups that are seeking signatures nationwide is added.
For Wilson Sanchez, interim national director of the party Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante (in the process of collecting signatures), the fact that his group competes for signatures with another 16 parties adds a degree of difficulty to the process. However, beyond that, he thinks that the important thing is to work on the verification of identity card numbers and signatures of each member, so thsese are not rejected during the validation process.
Additionally, the leader recognizes that in recent months several national political organizations have been recognized, so that the universe of available signatures is shortened. “We know it’s tough, but I’ve found a lot of commitment, enthusiasm from companions who were mostly from the PRIAN and also new people.”
