While a good part of the population of Posorja is learning about welding and masonry, another, the one dedicated to the fishing of Titi shrimp, cannot work due to the dredging carried out by DPWorld.
The construction of the deepwater port in this parish of Guayaquil began with the work of two dredgers that deepen what will be the berth front and the dock area, and whose debris lay together with 40 stranded boats, which represent the main livelihood of the parish.
The fishermen approve the construction of the port, but not the way in which the seabed is being removed.
Jorge Luis Baidal, from the 1 de Mayo Association, that groups the owners and crew of 40 boats that catch titi shrimps, says that the sediments are located in the “corralito pomadero,” the place where they fish.
“We have been paralyzed since July because the shrimps are dying. The country is going to lose 60 million dollars in exports, which is the money generated by 50% of the community of Posorja (fishermen, peelers, packers), who not only fish but processes it.” (I)
