There will be an Extension for Holidays
Yesterday, Ecuador’s Presidency declared that November 1st (Monday) would be a part of the holidays.
“Five days is too much,” said the Legal Secretary of the Presidency, Alexis Mera, while he expressed it was impossible to have a 5 day long holiday (from October 30th to November 3rd).
President Rafael Correa signed the 512 Decree, which said that this date should be considered an obligatory rest day. Tourism Ministry requested this.
President made such decision aiming to encourage tourism in the country during the holidays, “this is an positive economic activity for Ecuador”.
Article 1 of the Decree state that the rest days are obligatory for “all workers and public sector employees, they should make up for that day by working on Saturday October 30th”.
It also says “private sector will be able to have the rest day charge free. The other State functions will figure out a way to meet the Decree specifications according to law”.
The salaries regarding the day off will be equal to an ordinary day of work.
