This Wednesday starts the registration of cell phones brought from abroad
Posted On 10 Mar 2014
Travellers who buy mobile phones abroad, importers and authorized cell suppliers, have to register the IMEI (unique serial) of their equipment from this wednesday, otherwise the cell phones will not be activated.
Claudio Rosas, Technical Control Superintendent of Telecommunications (Supertel), explained that a system is activated whereby in any telephone transaction made (call or message), the terminal (telephone) will be subject to prior review by the unique code of the phone and the chip, if there is no inconvenience, the connection will be completed.
This is meant to be able to block phones that have been stolen or whose entry to the country is illegal.
