Trial of Michael Jackson’s Doctor Started Today
The trial of Dr. Conrad Murray for manslaughter Michael Jackson, began Tuesday in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, California.
The king of pop died for placing a “misplaced confidence” in his doctor, said prosecutor David Walgren in his opening statement. “The evidence will show that Michael Jackson literally put his life in the hands of Conrad Murray,” he said.
On Monday, the last pre-trial of the hearing that could last five weeks, Judge Michael Pastor decided that jurors will not see the video of a press conference that Jackson gave four months before his death. In the video, the singer appears on stage and mumbling incoherently “I love you all” and “This Is It” repeatedly, without explaining that it was the phrase of the concerts he planned giving in London.
One of Murray’s attorneys, Nareg Gourjian, told the judge that “obvious to see the video that Jackson was under the influence” of substances, so this video was important for the defense to substantiate the argument that Jackson was addicted to drugs and took the overdose himself.
