Two Surcharges will be added in Ecuadorian Electric Bills

The electric rate increase will not be the only value that will be changed from July 1, because with the new rates that will be applied to users who consume over 500 kilowatt hours per month (kWh /month), two surcharges will be added in their bills increasing, in such cases, the total cost to be paid: the streetlight rate and the cross-subsidization.

In both cases a 10% is charged over the total electricity consumption.

The announcement of a rate adjustment to the residential sector was made by President Rafael Correa in his last Saturday’s national broadcast. Today the National Electricity Council (Conelec) will formalize his idea in a meeting this afternoon.
