Ukraine and the rebels create an area without military
Posted On 21 Sep 2014
Yesterday at Minsk, the Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian separatists signed a memorandum of ceasefire to create a demilitarized zone of 30 km.
“The memorandum provides for the withdrawal of no less than 15 km of large caliber weapons. Thus, a safety zone of more than 30 km wide is created,” said Leonid Kuchma, Ukrainian president.
After two weeks in which both sides have barely agreed to ceasefire, Kiev and the rebels decided to capture on paper the conditions of the truce brokered by Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
