Unasur seeks to create “channels of dialogue” between Venezuela and the US
Unasur would seek to open “channels of dialogue” between the US and Venezuela, said this Monday the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, Ricardo Patiño, at the end of a meeting of foreign ministers of the organism in Montevideo.
“We decided to seek channels of dialogue, communication with the government of the United States that promote direct dialogue between the two countries, USA and Venezuela, in the framework of respect for States and the principle of nonintervention,” Patino said.
A commission of UNASUR was concerned with the sanctions imposed on Venezuelan government officials, accused of corruption and human rights violations.
These sanctions include the cancellation of visas and in some cases the assets freeze.
“They have demonstrated us the impact the measures the government of the United States has taken in recent days could cause on the people of Venezuela, about their government and concern that these decisions might have on peace in the region,” he added.
