Posted On 24 Jan 2016
2015 ended with a rise in unemployment. The figures confirm this: an unemployment rate of 4.77% vs. 3.80% in December 2014. According to a survey disclosed by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), unemployment rose from 273,414 to 357,892 in a year.
Within this category, according to a definition of the same state agency, people aged 15 and older who were not employed during the week during which the information was collected, are available to work. Most of this universe are men.
In some cases, women account for more favorable rates. The phenomenon responds to the decreasing labor, for example, in construction. This sector has mostly male staff. Another factor is the total labor force, as there are more males in the economically active population.
Moving on to another category, people with suitable employment, the total economically active population, account for 46.5%, ie a drop of 2.8 percentage points compared with the last month of 2014. The number of people with adequate jobs (ie with profits and stability) totaled 3’487.110 added. In 2014 the figure was 3’545.802. (I)
