Union´s disunity
Pachacutik´s convention for the unity of political organizations was not even installed.
Amid shouts and whistles, the bases of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), the ECUARUNARI and Popular Unity opposed to the extended dialogue with sectors of the center-right.
That was predictable because they have always repeated they will not join the movements and parties of that trend. With rainbow flags and banners reading “We will not join the right,” these militants rejected the assembly and prevented that national coordinator of Pachakutik Fanny Campos to greet her CREO, Patriotic Society, Social Christian Party, Podemos, SUMA, Concertacion, Avanza and Democratic Left guests.
She and her peers made several accusations, which demonstrate once again its division. “The CONAIE is with the government,” warned Campos. While the bases ‘sang’ in unison, “traitor, traitor, traitor.”
