Venezuelan children must demonstrate level of education in Ecuador

Posted On 09 Jan 2019

Ecuadornews:

In the process of registration for the first time of students in the fiscal education system, which began on Monday, the presence of Venezuelan citizens is notorious.

In Zone 8, which encompasses Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón, 22 centers are open and migrants come to ask for information. In the educational unit Los Vergeles, located in the sector of the same name, in the north, the Undersecretary of Education reported 21 foreign schoolchildren enrolled between Monday and Tuesday, out of a total of 73 registered for the first time.

According to the staff in charge of registration, there is a prevalence of Venezuelans. It was so that Marianela Hidalgo got a place on Tuesday for her 7 year old son, who would go to the first year of Basic Education.

Jesenia Barrios, aunt of the scholar, indicated that supposed difficulties to access the Venezuelan educational system prevented her nephew from entering the classrooms at 4 or 5 years.

She commented that the family is native to Santa Bárbara, from the state of Zulia; that she settled six months ago in Ecuador, but that the mother and son have a month in the country.

Personnel of the Undersecretariat remarked that migrants are subject to a placement examination to place them in the corresponding course according to their knowledge. He argued that the representative must make at the headquarters, compulsorily, the process of recognition of studies to evaluate the course that corresponds to attend.

In the web site juntos.educacion.gob.ec it is evident that the test will be given by students who do not present documents certifying their studies. He adds that the foreigners will take the test between Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 of this month. “In addition to the general requirements, they must present the report card or certificate of their last school year, apostilled or legalized,” the statement read.

He adds that the representative should join ense.educacion.gob.ec “as of January 24, 2019 to know in which educational unit, day and time the applicant must take the exam.”

The attention in the 22 seats is determined by the last digit of the representative’s card. Thus, Monday corresponds to 1 and 2; Tuesday, 3 and 4; Wednesday, 5 and 6; Thursday, 7 and 8 and Friday, 9 and 0. Saturdays, all digits.

The Venezuelan Betzabeth Funes, who registers a year and a half of stay in the country, got on Tuesday fit in the Eloy Alfaro educational unit, which works in the citadel October 9, in the south.

She commented that she had no major problem to obtain a place and that his eldest son, 5 years, would go to first year of basic education. They arrived from Maracay, from Aragua.

Designation of schools

From February 18 to March 1, parents will be able to find out which school their child was assigned to, by calling 1800-338222, by going to juntos.educacion.gob.ec or going to the district headquarters.

Start of classes

Minister Milton Luna said last week that the school year 2019-2020 will begin on April 22, the Costa regime. (I)
