Venezuelan opposition calls for “the march of empty pots”
The Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), called for a march for Saturday throughout the country to which it has called “the march of empty pots”, to protest against shortages and government policies of Nicolas Maduro.
“We call on performing across the country on Saturday 24 Marches of the Empty Pots Against Hunger and on Change, as an expression of indignation in street and hope of the Venezuelan people,” said group which hosts the majority of the opposition parties in a statement released on Monday.
The march will be an expression of the “outrage shortages, queues, insecurity and repression” and the “hope for change that we will build together”, says the text.
The demonstrations are “a peaceful and forceful response of the Venezuelan people to a government that only offers ‘deepening’ model that has led our country to ruin,” it adds.
This call is part of an “action plan” that the opposition coalition, which “has been declared in permanent session” has been proposed to address “the critical situation of the country”.
Also today, the MUD called on citizens to sound bugles and pots, at the same time that Maduro offers his annual accountability to the Venezuelan Parliament.
