Yoani Sanchez asks the Cubans to overcome their fear
Yoani Sánchez, renowned Cuban blogger, said yesterday during an event in the ultra-liberal Institute Cato, in Washington (USA) that she is no dreamer. She does not consider that the democratization of her country is going to occur only with independent journalists and new technologies, because this only will be possible the day people are not afraid of expressing themselves.
“Only with a mobile phone, an account on Twitter and a blog, you can not do much, less democratizing a country”, said the 37 year old linguist, author of the blog generation Y, Within this blog very critical texts have been written against the Communist regime of the brothers Raul and Fidel Castro.
Sanchez left Cuba in February of this year once was established the first immigration reform in that country.
The young blogger said that what is needed is that the Cubans lose their fear. “It won’t work if we are a small group criticizing or trying to change things, that is not enough.”
This week marks the 10th anniversary of so-called black spring, in which were arrested 75 activists and journalists on the island, for being dissidents to the Government.
