10 thousand inhabitants are affected by the collapse of a bridge
The bridge structure that served as a link road between the cantons of Zaruma and Atahualpa, in the province of El Oro, collapsed on the Arcapamba Creek on Saturday, after suffering a settlement in one of the ends, causing the main platform to be disabled to vehicular traffic.
The inhabitants of the parish Arcapamba expressed that an important factor that caused the breaking of the only way to arrive at Zaruma were the last rains, which weakened the foundations, ground ends relented and caused the collapse of the viaduct.
Danilo Mora, Mayor of Zaruma, visited yesterday the site together with a team of technicians, and requested the construction of a metallic bridge of 45 metres in length, which is expected to be installed within ten days, while the damaged will be permanently disabled.
The inhabitants of the sector could not perform their activities normally yesterday. Activities such as mining, agriculture, and the production of cheese, and shredded mani were affected, which are the main sources of income for this parish.
