2012 left 77,122 fines and 34 detainees for speeding
According to statistics from the Transit Commission of Ecuador (CTE for its Spanish acronym), last year there were 77,122 sanctioned drivers for exceeding the speed limit and 34 of them, were imprisoned only in Guayaquil.
During the first week of the New Year 2013, operatives for speeding in the streets of Guayaquil were not evident, although operatives are being held, according to the CTE.
Hector Solorzano Camacho, executive director of the institution, said that this year, the number of photo-radars (speed control devices that emit a photo) will be increased.
Currently, the CTE has 25 photo-radars of which 9 are used to control speeding in the main streets of Guayaquil like Narcisa de Jesus highway, Francisco de Orellana, 25 de Julio, Juan Tanca Marengo avenues, Perimetral route and via a la Costa.
Solorzano also revealed news about his road campaign to raise awareness called “Stop the car“. “We are preparing a series of actions, such as diffusion through the media, about the importance of respecting the speed limits,” he said.
