At Isla Trinitaria, in Guayaquil, a group of children between seven and twelve years old wake up early every Saturday with the hope of learning how to use a computer.
The children head to the house of their neighbor Don Julio León Freire, a 48 years old educator, who will soon be received as Attorney in Ecuador.
Don Julio, considered a neighborhood leader, along with the collaboration of Crusade for a New Humanity Foundation (FCNH) has been working for more than 20 years. In that time they have organized several computer courses, bananas community meal, they have collaborated with the facilities for a copier.
When we asked Don Julio how he met the labor developed by the Foundation, he told us that in the 90,’s the foundation did a computer course, where he attended as a student. Once he finished his training, Don Julio felt so grateful to the Foundation that he decided to continue this community work in his neighborhood called New Ecuador 3, Trinity Island.
Today, Don Julio gives computer courses in an annex built in his house, which he calls “the office”. There he receives children, youth and adults willing to learn this “necessary tool in our time.” Crusade for a New Humanity Foundation provided not only the idea but also with a computer and a photocopier.
Today, Don Julio along with FCNH is working in a new project which seeks to provide housing for seniors in the area that have lost their homes for somehow. Foundation as an entity and Don Julio as a mediator have signed the first support for the first elderly couple who have lost their homes at the Trinity Island.
