The Labor Minister Raúl Ledesma and the President of the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS), Manolo Rodas, carried out this Tuesday, September 18, 2018, an inspection in several commercial premises of the north center of the city of Quito, with In order to verify the working conditions of national and foreign employees.

The tour started at 3:00 p.m. at the Mongos, Los Choris and Ferretería Foco stores. This operation is carried out with the objective of regularizing the rights and protection of workers. The “rest bar” Mongos, located in the gallery of the Avenue of the Shyris, was the first commercial establishment visited by the authorities.

77 employees work in the different premises of this company. Of which 40% is foreign personnel and 60% national. The Minister of Labor and the president of the Board of Directors of the IESS verified that this establishment meets the legal requirements for the formalization of work contracts, working hours, salary, affiliation and contribution.

This is the third inspection of this company in the last three months, according to the firm’s staff. Minister Ledesma mentioned, during the visit to the Los Choris premises, that the idea of the inspections is to verify compliance with the Ecuadorian norm.

In case of any irregularity, said that the owners have the time to correct any observations. According to the Minister, complying with workers’ labor rights encourages efficient and sustained production. Inspections reviewed personnel information, employer documentation, and interviewed employees.

Rodas said that from September 2017 to date the IESS has carried out around 20,000 control processes. Of these, 1,600 were in Quito.

The president of the IESS Board of Directors assured that the right of affiliation is open to national and foreign workers, regardless of nationality. Of the 3.6 million members of the social security system, 60,000 are foreign nationals residing in the country. Of this number, 21,000 people are of Venezuelan nationality. (I)
